Key Vote On Tappan Zee Bridge Set For Monday

 

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A key vote on the new Tappan Zee Bridge will take place Monday, four days after the Westchester, Rockland and Putnam county executives threw their support behind the project.

The nine-member New York Metropolitan Transportation Council must unanimously approve the bridge project before it can quality for federal funds. State officials plan to apply for a $2 billion federal loan to pay for about one-third of the costs.

The special meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the council's Manhattan offices on the 22nd floor at 199 Water St., council officials said. There will be an opportunity for public comment on the proposed actions, which include adding the Tappan Zee Bridge project to the council's regional transportation plan and transportation improvement program.

The meeting will be webcast on the state Department of Transportation's website.

The voting members include Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell, as well as representatives from Suffolk and Nassau counties, the New York City Departments of Transportation and City Planning, The New York State Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
