Election 2012: Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Irvington

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Elections are a month away, and Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington residents will vote on several important races.

In addition to deciding who will be the next U.S. President, voters will pick representatives for state and national offices. Irvington voters also will decide when they want to hold village elections.

County Elections

Port Chester Town Justice David Zuckerman (D) is running against Port Chester Acting Village Justice Matthew Troy III (R) for a seat on the Westchester County Court.

State Elections

Two incumbents are unopposed in the upcoming state elections: Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) District 35, which covers Tarrytown and Irvington, and State Assemblyman Thomas Abinanti (D) in District 92, which covers Tarrytown, Irvington and Sleepy Hollow.

Sen. Greg Ball (R) is running for reelection against Justin Wagner (D) in District 40, which includes Sleepy Hollow.

National Elections

Rep. Nita Lowey (D) is running for reelection for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives against Rye Town Supervisor Joseph Carvin (R) and Francis Morganthaler (WTP).

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D) is running for reelection against Manhattan attorney Wendy Long (R) for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Local Referendums

Irvington voters will decide if they want to move the date of village elections from March to November to coincide with the date of the general elections.

Register To Vote

Residents have until Oct. 12 to register to vote in the upcoming elections. To register online, visit the League of Women Voters' website. Voter registration forms can be downloaded on the New York State Board of Elections website. Registration forms can be mailed or delivered in person to the Westchester County Board of Elections at 25 Quarropas St., White Plains, N.Y. 10601.
