With many in the crowd of more than 1,000 holding signs that read, "Chris Christie 2016: Telling It Like It Is," Christie, surrounded by his wife, Mary Pat, and four children, said his blunt, straight-talk approach will continue to be his signature as he enters a crowded Republican field that now includes 14 declared candidates.
“When I stand up on a stage like this in front of all of you there is one thing you will know for sure: I mean what I say and I say what I mean," he said.
"As a candidate for president, I want to promise you a few things," Christie continued. "First, a campaign without spin, or without pandering or focus group-tested answers. You're going to get what I think, whether you like it or not, and whether it makes you cringe every once in a while or not."
After his announcement, Christie headed off for his first campaign appearance, in New Hampshire, the site of the first 2016 presidential primary.
