On Thursday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Antoine Simmons, 36, was sentenced to a term of between three and a half to seven years in prison after being found guilty of multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
Shortly after 3 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2014, Simmons was speeding in a Lincoln Town Car on Ramsey Road in Yonkers when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, splitting the car in half. His passenger, sitting in the front seat without a seatbelt, was killed instantly.
After being transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with non-threatening injuries, toxicology tests revealed that Simmons was under the influence of PCP and marijuana at the time of the crash.
On March 9, Simmons was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs - all felonies - and charges of reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He has been remanded to the New York State Department of Corrections.
