TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A police officer was injured and a stash of drugs found after a 20-year-old man fled his car during a traffic stop on South Broadway, Tarrytown police said.
Edward J. Heiss, 20, Chanel B. Albizua, 18, and Lee Hayden Swift, 21, have been charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. Heiss also was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
Police say the Greenburgh Alcohol and Drug Task Force stopped a car near Kraft Foods on South Broadway and placed the driver under arrest. Heiss then allegedly ran away from the car into woods near Kraft Foods, where police say he threw a stash of drugs from his pocket off in the woods. Heiss was later caught and a police officer noted he had injured his left foot in the chase, police said.
Swift and Albizuo were arraigned and released. Heiss was arraigned and taken to the Westchester County Jail with bail set at $5,000 cash.
Police also reported the following items: • Firefighters and Con Edison shut off a gas leak at an office building Oct. 17 on Route 119. • A White Plains Road resident reported her laptop had been stolen from her car overnight Oct. 17. • A South Broadway resident reported someone claiming to work for Con Edison was calling her mother and asking for money Oct. 16. • A High Cliff Lane resident reported someone had stolen his car's tires Oct. 16. • A South Broadway resident reported someone had stolen their car tires Oct. 16. • A coyote was spotted near the intersection of Main Street and Windle Park Drive Oct. 16. • A car hit and damaged a fence and concrete block pillar at the RiverWalk Park on Van Wart Avenue Oct. 14. • A High Cliffe Lane resident reported his motorcycle had been stolen from his carport overnight Oct. 14.
