Thousands Of Tickets Issued In State Distracted-Driving Detail

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State Police issued more than 17,000 tickets in Westchester County and throughout the state during a distracted-driving enforcement campaign from April 10 through April 15, according to officials.

During the campaign, State Police targeted drivers using handheld devices when behind the wheel, police said.

Troopers also were on the look-out for distracted or impaired drivers, those not properly buckled up or violating the “Move Over Law,” police said. 

Statewide, a total of 2,752 tickets were issued for cell-phone use or texting as well as 5,557 for speeding and 187 for driving while intoxicated, police said.
