Tarrytown Officials: Stove Caused Gas Leak

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A gas leak created a heavy odor in a White Street building before it was stopped, police said.

Firefighters were called to the building at around 8 p.m. July 1 when someone called to report a heavy smell of gas on the fifth floor. Firefighters confirmed the gas and alerted Con Edison.

Officials determined the leak came from a stove and fixed it.

Police also reported the following items:

Live Wire: A Cottontail Lane resident reported a wire was down and burning in front of her house July 4.

Neighbor Dispute: A Benedict Avenue resident called police after his neighbor went on his property, cut his hedges and left the clippings on his patio at around 1 p.m July 4.

Car Crash: A car hit a pole on Tower Hill Road atb around 12:30 p.m. July 4.

Deer: Someone hit a deer while driving on Benedict Avenue at around 1 a.m. July 4. The driver reported the deer ran off into the woods.

Car Crash: A tree on the Tallyrand Apartments on Crescent Drive was knocked down when a car crashed into it at around 5:30 p.m. July 3. Police found the driver had accidentally stepped on the gas rather than the brakes.

Car Damaged: A White Plains Road resident reported his car had been struck by a blue pick-up truck who then drove away. The resident's car ended up with a cracked bumper and a dent on the passenger side.

Injured Deer: A Mallard Rise resident reported an injured deer was under a neighbor's porch at around 11 a.m. July 3. Police found deer had a broken leg before it ran off into the woods.

Suspicious Incident: Police were called to the Skate Shake on Wilson Park Drive at around 8 p.m. July 2 when a caller said some teens were trying to build a camp fire. Police found a group of students hanging out behind the soccer field but no camp fire.

Drug, Alcohol Bust: Police charged Manuel DeJesus-Hidalgo, 45, with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and for having an open container of alcohol, a village code violation, near Losee Park at around 6 p.m. July 2. DeJesus-Hidalgo was released on $100 cash bail.
