Tarrytown Bank Customer Threatens To Blow Up ATM

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A man trying to use a Citibank ATM threatened to blow it up after he was unable to withdraw funds from his account, Tarrytown police said.

The man entered the bank around 9 a.m. on Dec. 5 to complain about the ATM and was advised to contact the Chase Bank where his account is located because Chase does not release customer information, police said.

The bank's security manager told police the man asked Citibank staff “Who do I contact first, Chase or Citibank, when I blow up the ATM?”

Police also reported the following items:

  • The Tarrytown Recreation Department reported on Dec. 3 someone has been defecating on equipment and benches in village parks for several weeks.
  • A Windle Park Drive resident reported on Dec. 1 a postal package containing a $500 watch had been stolen from his front steps.
  • A Highland Avenue resident reported on Nov. 29 someone had used his bank account to take out a $20,000 student loan.
  • Two people interrupted an apartment burglary on Route 119 around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 24. The burglar ran away on foot.
  • A bicyclist suffered a fractured left collar bone and laceration above his left eye after being hit by a car while riding north on Route 9 near the Tarrytown Post Office around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 24.
  • A Con Edison security officer reported four teenage boys had ripped off caution tape placed around downed wires, knocked down traffic cones and threw a cone at his car's windshield on Union Avenue around 2 a.m. on Nov. 24.
  • A woman in her 60s was accused of stealing a woman's pocketbook containing $1,200 at a bus stop on Cortlandt Street and a purse containing $600 from the same woman at the C-Town supermarket on Nov. 23.
