Stranded Woman Accepts Ride, Flees Sexual Assault

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A Cortlandt Manor woman told police she was almost sexually assaulted after her dinner companion stranded her at a Tarrytown restaurant and she accepted a ride from a stranger.

Sleepy Hollow police notified Tarrytown police on Sunday, June 24, that they had found a distraught, intoxicated woman in front of their police headquarters around 8 a.m. The woman told police she had been at the Striped Bass restaurant in Tarrytown the night before with her child's father.

The woman said she got into an argument with the man, who then left without her. Another man approached her and offered a ride to her Cortlandt Manor home, police said. Once in the car, the woman reported, the man drove to a parking lot and tried to sexually assault her.

The woman told police she got away and walked to the Sleepy Hollow police headquarters.

Sleepy Hollow police ran a background check and found that the woman had unrelated arrest warrants in Yonkers, Mamaroneck and New York City. She was arrested and turned over to the Mamaroneck Police Department. The attempted sexual assault is under investigation.

Suspicious Incident: A resident of Tappan Landing Road reported that someone had looked in her window and tried to get in around 2 a.m. Saturday, June 28. The woman also heard a knock at her door but found no one there when she answered it, police said.

Identity Theft: A man told police on Tuesday, June 26, that several credit accounts had been opened in his name without his permission.

Injured Deer: A Carrollwood Drive resident reported a possibly injured deer in the bushes near her house about 9:30 a.m. June 26. Police searched but found only a fawn that was not injured.

Disgruntled Customer: A South Broadway resident reported on Monday, June 25, that she had given $1,250 in January to a business in Cheshire Court to repair three porcelain figurines and had yet to get the figurines back. An employee told her the repairs take time.

Sick Raccoon: A sick raccoon was captured in the 300 block of South Broadway about 8 p.m. June 24.

Theft: A woman reported that her baby stroller had been stolen from a lobby on Main Street on Saturday, June 23.
