State Police Target Construction Zone Speeding

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – State police will be cracking down on speeding near construction zones next week, the New York State Thruway Authority and State Police Troop T announced.

Police are planning “Operation Work Brake,” an increased enforcement campaign on the New York State Thruway to deter motorists from speeding and driving aggressively in work zones. The campaign starts Monday and will last through Friday.

"Road crews face constant dangers every day in work zones, so keep them safe by paying attention, especially in construction zones," Thruway Authority Executive Director Thomas J. Madison said in a press release. "Slow down and always obey the speed limit."

State Police Commander Major Robert C. Meyers said distracted, careless or speeding drivers pose a great risk to highway workers and other motorists.

"Throughout the enforcement period, Troop T will be out in full force patrolling the highway, as well as monitoring construction zones," Meyers said. "Safety is Troop T's number one priority. We ask motorists do their part by using caution while driving through the construction zones.”
