TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Three state police officers stopped a 33-year-old Putnam Valley man from jumping off the Tappan Zee Bridge Tuesday morning, officials said.

Trooper Osiris Smith was traveling on the bridge around 5:30 a.m. when he noticed a man had stopped his car on the northbound side of the bridge and had started to climb the railing, state police Sgt. William Collins said.

Smith radioed the state police barracks in Tarrytown and began to try to talk the man down, Collins said.

Troopers David Katz and William Suchocky arrived to help just as the man was getting to the top of the railing, Collins said.

Katz was able to tackle the man off the railing, Collins said.

The man was taken to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation, Collins said. No charges are being filed.
