Sleepy Hollow Bicyclist Killed By Tarrytown Driver

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A 28-year-old Sleepy Hollow man was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on Route 9 Monday night, police said.

Luis Zhizhpon was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center after he was hit on Route 9 near the intersection of Route 9 and Millard Avenue around 11 p.m., Sleepy Hollow Police Lt. Frank Hrotko said. Tarrytown resident Loja Carlos, 59, was driving the car that struck Zhizhpon. He has not been charged at this time, Hrotko said.

Hrotko said Zhizhpon and Carlos were both traveling in the right, southbound lane of Route 9 when the accident occurred.

Police closed Route 9 between Bellwood and Pierson from 11:15 p.m. to 3:45 a.m. to investigate the accident. Hrotko said several field sobriety tests were given to Carlos at the scene and police determined alcohol was not a factor.

Police and emergency responders administered CPR to Zhizhpon before taking him to the hospital.

Hrotko said the incident is still under investigation.
