TARRYTOWN, N.Y. A sex abuse suspect led police on a car chase from Newburgh through Rockland County and ending when traffic snarled the driver's getaway on the Tappan Zee Bridge Tuesday morning, police said.
An unidentified man in a white Cadillac was apprehended by South Nyack-Grand View police around 10:05 a.m. on the south side of the bridge after he led officials on a multi-county chase along Route 9W and the Palisades Parkway, police said. The man's name was not released.
Newburgh Police Lt. Dan Cameron said the chase began when officers were investigating an alleged sexual assault that took place in the Cadillac around 9:30 a.m.
Police saw a man enter the car, Cameron said, and approached him. The man gave the officers his driver's license when asked, but then sped away, Cameron said.
The driver led multiple police agencies on a chase through Orange and Rockland counties before Cameron said Tappan Zee Bridge traffic slowed him down enough so police could catch him.
Cameron said the man faces numerous vehicle and traffic charges. An investigation into the sexual assault is still ongoing, he said.
