TARRYTOWN, N.Y. New York State Police caught more than a thousand motorists speeding in work zones during a recent enforcement campaign.
The New York State Thruway announced Wednesday that state police issued 1,400 tickets for speeding violations during the Operation Work Brake campaign , which was designed to combat speeding in work zones on the state road. The campaign took place July 9 through 13 on the New York State Thruway.
It is crucial that all motorists understand the importance of remaining alert and driving safely through work zonesnot just for the men and women working on the roads, but for the safety of all motorists, Sgt. Thomas Ferritto said in a statement. We cant say it enough. Slow down through work zones.
Thruway Authority Executive Director Thomas J. Madison also stressed the importance of safe driving.
As we are in the prime highway construction season, improving our roads and bridges, we remind drivers that with the construction comes an important warning: please slow down through work zones, he said.
