The Village of Ossining Fire Department responded to 4 Maurice Ave. Wednesday afternoon to put out an attic fire on the second floor of a single family home. The homeowner, who was inside and operating a fireplace at the time of the blaze, got out safely. But a firefighter helping to battle the fire was injured after slipping on black ice at the scene.
Ossining Fire Chief Jason Lorenz said the firefighter was transported to Phelps Memorial Hospital.
"We're not sure if it was a minor or major injury but I don't think it was life threatening," Lorenz said. "No one else on the scene was injured."
Lorenz said the homeowner called in the fire after noticing sparks and embers on the roof and seeing smoke coming out of the attic. The home had scaffolding and the siding on the upper floor had been removed, leading firefighters to conclude the home was also undergoing renovations. Lorenz said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Croton's FAST Team, Sleepy Hollow's Ladder Team and Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene.
