A Rockland County man charged with reckless endangerment after firing shots at a vehicle in downtown Auburn, located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, has been suspended without pay from his job as a police officer with the New York City Police Department.

Officials with the NYPD confirmed that Michael Cerrato, 29, of Pomona, had been suspended following his arrest around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when officers were dispatched to 19 Dill St. for a report of shots fired, Auburn police said.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Cerrato standing in the roadway on Dill Street and several witnesses identified him as the person who had fired several shots from a handgun, police said.

Cerrato, who was cooperative with police, had a 9mm Glock handgun he legally owned, in which he had fired two rounds in the direction of an occupied vehicle, missing both times, police added.

No one was injured during the shooting. Police did not offer a reason for the attack.

Cerrato was charged with felony reckless endangerment and menacing. He is being held at the Cayuga County Jail.

According to his Linkedin profile, Cerrato has been with the NYPD since January 2015. In addition to work as a police officer, he also serves as a paramedic with Rockland Mobile Care and as a human resources specialist with the New York Army National Guard, he wrote on Linkedin.
