New Sleepy Hollow Fire Truck Arrives This Week

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – The Sleepy Hollow Fire Department eagerly is awaiting a very large delivery this week: its new $618,000 fire truck.

Sleepy Hollow firefighters finished up their final inspection of the new truck last week and said the truck should be delivered Friday morning.

“The truck looks amazing and the branding of Sleepy Hollow is out of this world,” Capt. Christopher Scelza said. “Everyone in Wisconsin at the factory absolutely loves the artwork and truck.”

The fire department requested a new truck in August 2011, with Fire Chief John Korzelius saying it wanted to stay ahead of the curve instead of waiting for the current truck to stop working. Village trustees agreed, hiring a truck consultant to oversee the process.

Trustees awarded a $692,438 bid, but Scelza said it came in less than budgeted at about $618,000.

The new truck will be black and orange, a tribute to the former North Tarrytown High School, but the fire department said it wants the final design of the truck to be a surprise.

The truck is a pumper, which Scelza said is used to carry water and hose lines, as well as vehicle extraction tools for car accidents. More than 25 businesses have been building the truck for the past few months in Appleton, Wisc. Sleepy Hollow firefighters have been working on the truck's design and bid for about two years, Scelza said.
