Early Saturday morning, New Rochelle native Joshua Monsanto was stopped at a red light with his passenger, Hugo Rodriguez, 19, of the Bronx, when the two got into an argument with a pedestrian. Rodriguez then displayed a gun and shot the victim in the leg before Monsanto sped off, police said.
The officers, who happened to be stationed nearby in an unmarked car quickly tracked down the suspects and recovered a Beretta in the back seat. The victim was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital in Manhattan.
According to a New York Daily News report, Monsanto and Rodriguez both have prior arrests on their record. They both have been charged with attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
