Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner announced Thursday that 16 of the 29 suspects have been arrested after a sweep of the southwest part of the city targeting street level drug dealers. Searches are underway for the remaining suspects.

The arrests come after a lengthy investigation by Operation DOPE (Drug Opiate Proactive Enforcement) that began in 2015.

In total, the suspects that have been apprehended have a combined arrest history that includes more than 400 total arrests.

According to Gardner, the department utilized undercover officers, who purchased large amounts of heroin, crack cocaine and prescription medication. This was the first major bust since the announcement of the Heroin Enforcement and Assistance Response Team (HEART) initiative in April.

The investigation into the 13 suspects that remain at large is ongoing. At a press conference Thursday, Gardner and Mayor Mike Spano encouraged anyone with information on any of the suspects to contact detectives at (914) 377-7900. Confidential tips can also be sent by texting the key word ypd, with the tip to 847411.
