William Davis, 56, who headed the Federation of Government Employees Local 1119, got 15 months behind bars for embezzling $150,000, Bharara said.

Sentenced by a federal judge in White Plains, Davis had pleaded guilty in April to misusing and stealing union funds.

According to Bharara, Davis used the debit card of a deceased former union official to siphon the money from the union’s bank account between 2008 and 2012.

Davis used the card at stores and online retailers such as Apple, Best Buy, Walmart, and Radio Shack to buy electronics, music downloads, video games, cellphones, men’s clothing, gasoline and cigarettes.

Bharara said Davis also used the card to buy money orders totaling at least $30,000 from the U.S. Post Office in Montrose.

Davis used some of the money orders to pay his rent and made hundreds of cash withdrawals from ATMS around the area, racking up thousands of dollars in ATM fees and penalties for insufficient funds, the U.S. attorney said.

Davis also has to submit to two years of supervised release after he gets out of prison.

He was ordered to pay the union $150,000 in restitution.
