Man Blocking Neighbor's Driveway In Area Caught With Drugs, Police Say

A 24-year-old man is behind bars after state police say he was found to be in possession of over four pounds of marijuana after blocking his neighbor's driveway in Patterson.

Troopers received a complaint of a vehicle blocking a driveway on Haviland Drive in the town of Patterson on Sunday, Feb, 18, State Police from the Brewster barracks.

Upon interview of the vehicle owner, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were observed in plain sight, police said. An investigation found Austin M. Hayes to be in possession of over four pounds of marijuana, approximately 2.5 grams of concentrated cannabis, and $1,183 in U.S. currency, according to police.

Hayes was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree with intent to sell and criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, both Class D felonies, as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and two counts of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, all Class A misdemeanors.

Hayes was arraigned before the town of Patterson Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond.
