IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Irvington police issued 73 summons for vehicle and traffic violations during a checkpoint Wednesday.

During the checkpoint, police impounded four cars, took five trucks out of service for defective equipment and arrested four people.

“This checkpoint is one component of the Irvington Police Department’s continuing effort to take unsafe trucks off our local roads, increase compliance with the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law and assure that Home Improvement contractors doing business in our community are properly licensed,” the department said in a statement.

The checkpoint, set up in conjunction with the New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unite, the Westchester County Solid Waste Commission and the Westchester County Department of Consumer Affairs, was set up on Route 9 in Irvington from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Police say three people were arrested on charges of operating vehicles with a suspended or revoked registration, a misdemeanor, and one person was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle with the operator's license suspended, a misdemeanor. Two other drivers were issued summons on a charges of driving without a license.

Police say 22 home improvement contractors were checked, with three issued summons on charges of operating with a home improvement license and one issued a summons on charges of deceptive trade practice.

A total of 5727 cars passed through the checkpoint, according to police.
