IRVINGTON, N.Y. Irvington received a Gold Award from AAA this week in honor of its commitment to traffic safety, Irvington police announced Friday.
"The village was cited for its many traffic safety efforts, including their bicycle safety program and their seat belt enforcement program," a department statement said. "They were also presented with a pedestrian safety commendation for having 46 years without a pedestrian fatality."
More than 60 awards were given out by AAA New York in October. Winners from the New York metropolitan area were honored at a ceremony on Long Island on Oct. 3. AAA New York serves 1.6 million members in the state.
