Lt. Frank Farina told Daily Voice on Tuesday morning that the first-degree vehicle manslaughter charge, a felony, was based on alleged alcohol use by a 43-year-old driver from White Plains who survived the head-on crash.

Farina said he was unable to provide any other details about the alleged alcohol involvement, including whether a blood-alcohol level was determined.

Bail has been set at $100,000 for Michele Bonet, 43, of White Plains who was charged after the fatal accident Friday.

The married couple from Tarrytown was killed in the collision on Route 100A in the Hartsdale section of Greenburgh.

Greenburgh police officers found a 2009 Chrysler Town & Country operated by Bonet collided with a Lexus E35 operated by Carmelo Sbezzi, 80, of Tarrytown and his wife Henrietta, 82, a passenger in the vehicle, had collided head on.

Bonet was arraigned in the hospital over the weekend, according to a spokesman from the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. A felony hearing is scheduled on Nov. 15 in Greenburgh Town Court.

The 2:15 p.m. crash occurred near a 313 W, Hartsdale Ave. (Route 100A). Greenburgh EMS treated and transported the three occupants with serious injuries to the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla where Henrietta died. A short while later, her husband, Carmelo, was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Bonet was admitted to the hospital with injuries she sustained in the crash.

Route 100A was closed through the afternoon and into the evening Friday for an investigation of the crash.

Lt. Farina said Greenburgh detectives are continuing the investigation with the county District Attorney’s office.

Farina said anyone with information is asked to contact Greenburgh Police at 914-989-1710.
