On Thursday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Rashi McClean, 27, was arraigned on multiple felony charges stemming from a shooting nearly five years ago, when he shot an innocent woman during a gang conflict.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2011, McClean’s victim was walking home from the train station with groceries on South 12th Avenue when she was struck by a bullet in the back of the head when McClean took shots at a man who had been in an ongoing conflict with he and his gang.

According to McCarty, the victim was a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh and was working as a research scientist at Pepsi. She was killed instantly when the stray bullet struck her as she walked on the sidewalk.

The shooting prompted a joint investigation between the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and Mount Vernon Police Department that has spanned nearly five years.

McClean has been charged on a six-count indictment that includes felony charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and intimidating a victim or witness. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has been remanded to Westchester County Jail and is due back in court on Wednesday, June 8.
