A police officer first called the Tarrytown Fire Department to report an odor of natural gas in the store around 11 p.m. Nov. 11, but firefighters found no evidence of a gas leak. A separate caller reported smelling gas at 2:15 a.m. Nov. 12.
The Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Greenburgh paramedics were called after employees said they felt light-headed. Officials called Consolidated Edison and investigated Bella's Restaurant next door for a possible leak.
Police said a gas line in the next-door restaurant was responsible and the problem was repaired.
The following items also were reported by Tarrytown police:
Groceries Stolen: A Main Street resident discovered someone had taken four of her catering grocery bags while she was unloading them on Nov. 14.
Leaking Transformers: Irvington police reported that two transformers were leaking oil at South Broadway and West Sunnyside Lane on Nov. 11.
Shoplifting: The 7-Eleven reported a man stole a burrito sandwich valued at $1.81 and fled to a black car outside after an employee confronted him on Nov. 11.
Drunken Student: An EF International Academy student was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital Center for being intoxicated on Nov. 10.
Petty Larceny: Kevin Whitted, 47, was charged with petty larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors, after he refused to stop his car and drove onto the New York State Thruway on Nov. 9, police said. Whitted and his car were later found stopped on the Thruway in South Nyack.
Stuck Car: A car lodged itself on top of a large landscape stone on Prospect Avenue and had to be towed on Nov. 8.
