Ventura Direitinho, 86, Sleepy Hollow Auto Worker

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Ventura DaSilva Direitinho, a longtime Sleepy Hollow resident, died Jan. 10. He was 86.

He was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Brazil to JoseMaria Lopes and Beatriz DaSilva Direitinho. He worked as a parts distributor for General Motors Corporation in North Tarrytown for many years.

Direitinho was a member of United Auto Workers Local 664. A longtime member of the Tarrytown Portuguese American Club, he had a love of gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Emilia; two children, Mario (Maria) Direitinho and Aldina (Armando) Homem, both of Ossining; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Sleepy Hollow. Entombment will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Arthritis Foundation.
