Theodore Jako, Formerly Of Tarrytown, 75

TARRYOWN, N.Y. -- A graveside service will be held on Aug. 14 in Sleepy Hollow for Theodore Jako, 75, who died at his home in Statesboro, Ga., on May 30.

Jako was born in Tarrytown and previously resided in of Lake Worth, Fla. and Naples, Fla.  

He graduated from the RCA Technical School in Camden, N.J. and later worked as chief engineer at St. John's University.

In 1976 he left St. John's to work as a cameraman and sound technician for NBC in New York, then moved onto Cablevision, where he was responsible for the purchase of all new technology and equipment and oversaw the team that built Cablevision's first TV production studios and its subsidiary, Rainbow Network Communication's first broadcast center on Long Island. 

He went on to lead the engineering team at Interlink and will be remembered by colleagues and friends he met during that time in several countries. He played an important role in the launch of six new, national TV networks that continue today to dominate their markets in bringing news and information to hundreds of millions of people in Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Hungary. 

In 2013, he was inducted into St. John’s University WRED-TV Hall of Fame.  He was also active in the American Hungarian clubs in Naples, Fla. and Lake Worth, Fla.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Tufo Jako of Statesboro, GA (formally of Boynton Beach, Fla.); sister, Judy Butler and husband, Curt Butler of Naples Fla.; niece, Liz Burney of Lyndhurst, N.J; nephew, George Burney of Estero, Fla.; step-father to Jodi Caldwell, Bryan Caldwell, Becky Richardson and loving 'Poppy' to five step-grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by his parents Steve and Elizabeth Jako of North Tarrytown.

Graveside Service will be held on Aug. 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital  and Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital.
