TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Sr. Vianney Stewart, RSHM, of Tarrytown, died August 2. She was 75.
Sr. Stewart was born Katherine Stewart, Nov. 19, 1921, in Co. Galway, Ireland to Thomas and Bridget Hickey Stewart, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown, in 1938.
Sr. Stewart taught at St. Catharine of Alexandria, Brooklyn; the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Sag Harbor; and the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Manhattan; and was principal of Marymount School in Tarrytown. She taught in Colombia at the Marymount Schools in Barranquilla and Medellin and at the Diocesan Seminary in Florencia, Caqueta; and in Europe at Marymount International Schools in London, England and Paris, France.
Sr. Stewart served at Cormaria Retreat House, Sag Harbor and was parish volunteer at St. Catharine of Alexandria, Brooklyn. She retired to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown where she was living at the time of her death.
Sr. Stewart is survived by her sister, Sr. Declan Stewart, MSHR, of Dublin, Ireland; and many nieces and nephews in Ireland, England, and the United States. She was predeceased by her brothers; and sisters, including Sr. Gretta Stewart, RSHM.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 3 to 7:30 p.m., vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Ave., Tarrytown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
