Sr. Mary Bernarde Holohan, Rshm, 87, Of Tarrytown, Retired Teacher

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Sr. Mary Bernarde Holohan, RSHM, of Tarrytown died Dec. 3. She was 97.

Sr. Holohan was born in Co. Kilkeny, Ireland, to Richard and Alice Moore Holohan, and entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Béziers, France in 1936. She taught in Béziers, France at Cours St. Jean and in Tarrytown, at Marymount Junior School, Marymount Secondary School and Marymount College. She was director of postulants and worked with young sisters who had just made vows. After retiring from teaching in 1974, she worked in offices of the congregation in Tarrytown and Rome, Italy, and volunteered at Westchester Medical Center. In 2013, she retired to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown.

Sr. Holohan is survived by many nieces and nephews in Ireland and by the members of her religious community.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 4 from 3 to 7:30 p.m., Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5. Burial at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sr. Holohan’s name may be made to Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.
