Salvatore DiCioccio, Tarrytown Resident, War Veteran, 85

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Salvatore "Sammy" DiCioccio Sr., a former Tarrytown resident who served in the U.S. Army after World War II, died on Tuesday. He was 85. 

He was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Ossining to Luigi and Francesca (Santangelo) DiCioccio. He worked for CIBA-Geigy in Ardsley for many years before his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 30, and was an avid bowler, participating in many leagues throughout the years. He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and caring for his garden.

He is survived by his sons Sal (Caroline) of Yorktown, Louis (Judy) of Long Beach, Calif., a daughter, Tina Marie Casarella (John) of North Haven, Conn., a sister Rose DiCioccio of Peekskill and his grandchildren, Daniel and Joseph Casarella and Nicholas and Breanna DiCioccio.

He was predeceased by his wife Jean A. (Santagate) and two sisters, Mary Vitale and Louise Funaro.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Leach & Thomas, Inc., 32 State St., Ossining. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday from 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, with burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the New York State Veterans Home in Montrose are requested.
