Born in Lausanne, Switzerland Feb. 25, 1927 to Amelia and Georges Lawrence, raised in Paris, France and New York City.

Raymonde grew up in tumultuous 1930’s Europe and emigrated as a teenager with her family to New York. After graduating from Barnard College, she married E. Herbert Mayer – a 66-year marriage until Herbert’s death.

They raised three children to have like-minded devotion to family, living in several states along the way.

She taught French for many years at Horace Greeley High School, preparing many young lives for the world.

After a well-earned retirement in Florida, where she helped older lives in their later stages, she returned north to be with her family at the end.

Throughout, she enjoyed music, literature, painting, the world around her, and especially her many devoted friends.

Predeceased by her husband and brother, she is survived by her children – Lance, Lesley and Larry, their spouses – Karyn, Rick and Christa, seven grandchildren - Justin, Christie, Michele, Kim, Sean, Lucas and Daniel, six great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Nancy. Each takes forward fond memories of love, charm, wit, caring, and many good times.

A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Center for Hope Hospice, 1900 Raritan Rd., Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
