Mary E. McCarthy, 88, Longtime Sleepy Hollow Resident

SLEEPHY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Mary E. McCarthy, a longtime Sleepy Hollow resident, died Thursday, March 12, at the age of 88.

She was born in Ossining on Jan. 12, 1927, the daughter of Nunzio and Angelina Pace Lobasso. On Sept. 13, 1947, she married Joseph F. McCarthy in St. Ann's Church and the couple settled in North Tarrytown, where they raised their family.

Mary was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Seniors and the Transfiguration Seniors. She was also a member of ITALO, the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen (John) Hardiman of Bethel, Connecticut, and Clarice Pollack (Blaine Taft) of Tarrytown. She is also survived by two granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and a great-grandson as well as her brother, Joseph Lobasso, and her daughter-in-law, Barbara McCarthy. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her son, Joseph; and her sister, Philomena Sanzo.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at Transfiguration Church at 11 a.m., with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
