Marjorie Kurtz Martin, 83, Of Tarrytown

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Marjorie Kurtz Martin of Tarrytown, formerly of Fort Belvoir, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 4. She was 83.

Martin was born in Iowa City, Iowa, to Dr. and Mrs. Edwin B. Kurtz. She attended the University of Iowa Elementary Experimental School and graduated from University High School in 1949. She went on to earn a B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1953.

Following her husband's Army service at Fort Belvoir, VA, the Martins moved to Tarrytown in 1954. She became active in the United Methodist Church, held offices in the Women's Society, and was superintendent of the Sunday school. She served on the board of directors of the Tarrytown Day Care Center and organized the Sleepy Hollow High School Music Boosters, of which she was President for three years. She served as secretary/treasurer for her husband's Dick Martin Design Corporation. She was currently a member of the Union Church of Pocantico Hills where she was a deacon for six years.

Martin is survived by her daughters, Tania Martin (Fred) Cramer of Ossining and Cindy O'Hara (Malcolm) of Alpharetta, Ga.; son, Randall Martin (Kathy) of Bridgewater, Mass.; two grandchildren; siblings, Jeanne Seydel and Dr. Edwin B. Kurtz, Jr.; family; and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Richard.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 21, 2015, at the Union Church of Pocantico Hills.
