Maxine grew up in Bristol, CT, along with her sister, Elaine, and her brother, Murray. Her parents, Dr. Harry and Beverly Hershman, instilled in Maxine a reverence for learning, ethics, and a duty to help others. They were devoted champions of their children, a quality that also flourished in Maxine.

Maxine graduated from NYU and Brooklyn Law School, then moved to Chappaqua to raise her children along with their father, Ronald Green. In those years she also ran a successful travel agency, Travel Partners.

Maxine enjoyed many hobbies including tennis, skiing, travel, and the NYT Crossword Puzzle.

She had a lifelong passion for music, frequently playing classical compositions on piano, and she enjoyed listening to an eclectic array of music, from Mozart to Neil Diamond.

Maxine felt great joy in watching her children and grandchildren integrate the love of music into their own lives.

After her kids left home for college, Maxine began working in local politics as an aide to New York Assemblywoman Naomi Matusow. Years later, she moved to New York City, where she began a 15-year tenure as an aide to Sen. Chuck Schumer.

Maxine was known widely for her magnetic personality, razor-sharp wit, and most of all for complete devotion to her children. She held herself to the highest standard of personal responsibility, and lived selflessly in service of others, though this did not stop her from humiliating anyone who played her in Scrabble.

Maxine is survived by her children, Rachel, Micah and Joshua, and her grandchildren, Marin, Emma, Elijah, Jaden, Noah and Asher. Maxine’s finest qualities live on in each of them.

Maxine was greatly loved, and she will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Planned Parenthood or to the DNC, both of which she supported.
