WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Julia S. Joffe died July 6 at her home in White Plains after a prolonged battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was 86.
Joffe was a psychiatry administrator and therapist at White Plains Hospital before retiring in 1992.
Born Feb. 7, 1926, in Denver, Colo., she attended the University of Texas at Austin, Columbia University for a master's of social work and Westchester Center for Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
Early in her professional career, Joffe worked as a psychiatric social worker for Charity Association of San Antonio University of Texas Medical. She also worked at Dallas Community Guidance, New York State Association for Crippled Children in New York City and Abbott House in Irvington.
After retiring, Joffe continued in private practice and specialized in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. She was a fellow of the Westchester Center Psychoanalysis Society, Group Psychotherapy Association, Orthopsychiatric Association and National Association of Social Workers.
A longtime resident of Irvington, Joffe was also an active member of the PTA and League of Women Voters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lester L. Joffe. She is survived by four children, Barbara, Lee, Paul and Elyzabeth (Smiles); and six grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements by Ballard-Durand Funeral Home are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oxfam International.
