Jose F. Martins, 80, Of Tarrytown, Was Tooling Superintendent At GM

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Jose F. (Joe) Martins, a longtime Tarrytown resident, died March 27. He was 80.

Martins was born Feb. 22, 1933 to Jack and Felicidad Martins in Hudson, Mass. He was the superintendant of Tooling for General Motors Corp, in North Tarrytown for 28 years. He retired in 1993.

Martins was an associate member of Hope Hose Co. #1 of the Tarrytown Fire Department. He was a member of UAW Local 664. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was discharged as a corporal in the United States Armed Forces.

Martins is survived by his wife, Lillian of Tarrytown; children, Elaine (Ed) Vachovetz of Danbury, Conn., Laura (Ken) Pullicino of Middlebury, Conn., and Charles (Debby) Martins of Irvington; six grandchildren; brother, Albert (Charlotte) Martins; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Irene Vidal; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Ashley Pullicino.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday March 30, at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday April 2, at Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington. Interment will be private.
