James L. Johnson, 92, Retired Driver For Anchor Motor Freight In Tarrytown

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - James L. Johnson died Tuesday, Oct. 15. He was 92.

Johnson was born June 29, 1921, in Columbus, Ga.. After World War II, he relocated to New York State, where he was employed at West Point Academy, West Point. After moving to Rockland County, he joined Pilgrim Baptist Church, Nyack, where he served 50 years on the Usher Board, and 62 years as a member of Pilgrim Baptist. He was employed by Anchor Motor Freight, Tarrytown, as a tractor-trailer driver for 25 years, until he retired in 1989.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Lucille, Spring Valley; daughters, Pamela Rodriguez (Barry Ruzzi), Middletown and Brenda Griffin, Columbus, Ga.; son, Harvey Johnson (Barbara), Trenton, N.J.; sister, Isabelle Spencer, Columbus, Ga.; sister-in-law, Lillian Roscoe, Spring Valley; brothers-in-law, William Allen, Spring Valley and Leroy Canada, Florida; son-in-law, David Holmes, Warwick; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; godchildren; family; and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Rita J. Holmes.

Calling hours are Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 80 Franklin St., and High Ave., Nyack. Graveside rites will follow at Brick Church Cemetery, 221 Brick Church Road, between Route 306 and Mt. Ivy Lane, Spring Valley.
