Howard L. Jaffray, 85, Formerly Of Irvington

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Howard L. Jaffray, a former longtime Irvington resident, died peacefully on Feb. 4 at his home in Tamarac, Fla. He was 85.

Howard is survived by wife Susan; son Howard and his wife Melody; daughter Dana Sabatino and her husband Thomas; grandchildren Julia and Frances; and siblings Laura Jaffray, Rosaria D'Agostino and George D'Agostino and his wife Pamela.

Howard was born on Oct. 13, 1929 in Dobbs Ferry, son of the late Benedetto and Anna (nee DiChiara) D'Agostino.

He attended Irvington schools where he was a star basketball and football player, and then served six years in the U.S. Air Force in Texas.

Returning to Irvington, he worked as a bartender at Benny's restaurant (now the River City Grille), opened a deli and eventually became the chef and co-owner of Benny's. Howard enjoyed boating on the Hudson, cheering on the New York Giants and spending time with family.

His family will remember him as an amazing athlete, wonderful cook, good friend and loving father.
