Elizabeth Duff Shute, 99, Of Sleepy Hollow

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Elizabeth Duff Shute, of Sleepy Hollow and Chebeague Island, Maine, died on Thursday, April 23. She was 99.

Shute was born in Passaic, N.J., and raised there and in Naugatuck, Conn., graduating from Wellesley College in 1937.

She volunteered for the Institute of International Education in New York City and the Donald R. Reed Speech and Hearing as well as mental health centers in Tarrytown, along with the Junior League of Westchester-on-Hudson and The Thursday Club.

She was predeceased by her husband John V. Shute and a daughter Elizabeth L.S. Roby, and is survived by her daughters, Gail S. Williams and her husband Omer, Jane S. Scifres, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held on May 17, at 3:30 p.m., at Kendal on Hudson in Sleepy Hollow.
