TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - Effie Comatos Kyros, a resident of Tarrytown, died Wednesday, Nov. 27. She was 99.
Kyros was born Sept. 3, 1914, in Kalambaka, Greece, to John and Catherine Bacos Comatos. The family came to New York City in 1916; moving to Lowell, Mass., then North Tarrytown in 1927. During World War II, she served as an inspector at the Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors until her retirement.
Kyros is survived by her brother, Gerard Comatos of Poughkeepsie; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Her husband, John; sisters Angelina Markantes, Bessie Papachristos; and brothers Anthony (Pep) Comatos, Harry Camatos, died earlier. Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 2, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Coffey Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour in Rye. Burial will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
