Diana R. Grass, 86, Ossining Resident

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Diana R. (Ruffalo) Grass died on Saturday, July 2. She was 86.

Born in Mount Vernon, Grass graduated from Davis High School. A trained nursing assistant, she volunteered her time to care for abandoned infants at the New York Foundling. She worked at American Airlines' personnel department before raising her family.

Later in her life, Grass returned to volunteering, spending 25 years at Phelps Memorial Hospital. "She had a special ability to sense when people needed extra love or support and an endless capacity to nurture and comfort," information from the funeral home noted.

She is survived by her daughters, Andrea Mooney, Karen Kelsey and her husband David, and Lizbeth Grass; grandchildren Ashley Cooper and her husband Tristan, Anders Kelsey, and Alexandra Kelsey; great-grandsons Liam and Owen Cooper; grandkitty Jake; and three cousins with whom she shared very special relationships, Stephen Salladé, Mac Bailey and Linda Milne.

Grass is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Andrew Grass Jr.; parents Cora and Louis Ruffalo; and brother Louis Ruffalo Jr.

Visiting hours will take be from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Place, in Ossining. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Scarborough Presbyterian Church.
