SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Charles F. Helwig, a lifelong Sleepy Hollow resident, died Oct. 8. He was 57.
Born July 23, 1955, he was the son of George F. and Marilyn Rakacky Helwig. A former altar boy at St. Teresa of Avila Church and Boy Scout with St. Teresa's Troop, Helwig graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School. In 1992, he married Cynthia D. Granata in St. Teresa of Avila Church.
Helwig was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. He loved drag racing, especially with his own car.
He is survived by his wife; his mother; a brother, George, of West Haverstraw; three sisters, Patti Carlsen, of Sidney, Mon., Kathie Hamilton, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Mary Bucci, of Tarrytown; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Sleepy Hollow. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Phelps Hospice.
