Anthony Gasparovic, 85, Tarrytown Native

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Anthony L. Gasparovic, a native of North Tarrytown and longtime resident of Lakeside, Calif., died on Saturday, Dec. 27. He was 85.

Gasaparovic was the son of Anthony and Mary Sles Gasparovic. After graduating  at 16 from St. Anne’s Academy in New York and serving in the United States Navy from 1946-1951, he settled in San Diego, Calif., with his wife, Della.

He was a caring husband, father and grandfather, who also served Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church as a deacon for several decades, spearheading SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange).

He served his community as a founding member of the Big Brothers of San Diego County, Inc. in 1961, Big Brother of San Diego Board of Directors in 1966 and was honored as Big Brother of the Year in 1964.

His career was in Energy with General Dynamic/ General Atomic as a Research and Development Technical Scientist from 1951 until his retirement in the late 1980s, helping to develop cathode ray and fiber optics, which were most commonly used in television and computer screens.

He was the husband of Della (Bingham) Gasparovic and father to Patti Anderlohr, who both predeceased him in 1997 and 2012, respectively.

He is survived by his sisters, Louise Green, Terese Malone and Joan Kiselak, formerly of Tarrytown. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. 

His Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lakeside, Calif., on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 9 a.m. with interment to follow at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Memorial Park in National City, Calif.
