Anne Byrne, 91, Longtime Tarrytown Resident

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Anne M. Byrne of Tarrytown died June 16. She was 91. 

Born July 25, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Harry and Adeline McGarry McCabe. She moved to North Tarrytown as an infant and attended St. Teresa's School. Byrne graduated from North Tarrytown High School and married James J. Byrne on Aug. 6, 1944, in St. Teresa's Church. 

She worked at Eastern Aircraft from 1942 to 1945. She was a founding member of the Conqueror Hook and Ladder Ladies Auxiliary and the Transfiguration Seniors. Byrne was also a member of the Hill and Dale Garden Club, a volunteer for Phelps Hospital and a Girl Scout leader for eight years. She enjoyed vacationing on Martha's Vineyard and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. 

Byrne is survived by three sons, Timothy (Virginia) Byrne, Joseph (Nancy) Byrne and Nicholas Byrne; a daughter, Mary Anne (Kenneth) Sans; five grandchildren; a step-grandson and two step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1993. 

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Transfiguration Church. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
