Andrew Gurley, 75, Irvington Investment Banker

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – Andrew Fenn Gurley, a retired investment banker from Irvington, died Jan. 7 at his home. He was 75.

He was born April 22, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Melene Howard and Henry Fraser Gurley. He graduated from Poly Prep Country Day School and received a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in 1960. He married Joanna M. Ensor on June 3, 1961.

Gurley's career in the municipal bond business on Wall Street began at Glore Forgan. He also worked at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Drexel Burnham Lambert. He joined PaineWebber in 1991 prior to their acquisition by UBS Securities. He spent the last 17 years of his career there, retiring in 2008.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, American history, the New York Giants, sports memorabilia and memories of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was an active trustee at Poly Prep and trustee emeritus at Gettysburg College.

Gurley is survived by his wife; a brother, John; four sons, Andrew (Allison) Gurley Jr., Bruce (Margaret) Gurley, Scott (Jane) Gurley and James (Mia) Gurley; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, H. Fraser Gurley Jr.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Irvington Presbyterian Church.
