Al Ciraco, a Yorktown resident, said he is excited for the World Cup.
"I hope the US does well," Ciraco said. "I am all in. We have to get out of our group. I love Juergen Klinsmann (America's coach). He brings a real European flair to the team."
Ciraco said his Italian family loves watching the World Cup and they will be glued to their TV when it starts.
Landon Donovan not making the team was a disappointment to Ciraco, who remembers screaming very loudly when he scored his famous goal against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup.
Josayne Colwell, a Bronxville resident who runs Le Moulin Catering in Irvington, said she is rooting for her native France.
"I hope the best will win," Colwell said. "It would be nice to see the French do a good job. It's going to be interesting."
Colwell said he hopes the focus of the tournament remains on the players and the game.
"I wish the best for everybody," Colwell, whose favorite player is French legend Zinedine Zidane, who led France to the 1998 World Cup.
Scott Craven, a member of the Ossining Police Department, played soccer in college.
"America is going to win," Craven joked. "I'm not concerned at all.
Craven said Germany will be the US' toughest opponent in group play and his favorite player is goalkeeper Tim Howard and his favorite of all time is Brazilian legend Pele.
In 1994, Craven attended the World Cup, going to Giants Stadium to see Italy vs. Romania.
"I've never seen anything like it," Craven said.
