Water Shut Off To 69 In Irvington After Main Break

IRVINGTON, N.Y — Officials say 69 homes in Legend Hollow can expect to have their water restored within six to eight hours. Crews are working to repair a water main break from Wednesday morning.

The water to those homes was shut off so that officials could determine where the break was and isolate a leak, but the village found it needed to make repairs to the broken main to fix the problem.

The village announced the leak Wednesday morning.

The Irvington Water Department has reported seeing trouble with water pressure throughout the village because the water main break is causing the water tank levels to drop, the village said. Pressure should return to normal as the water levels are restored.

The village noted that residents “will experience brown water for a few hours due to sedimentation cause by the break.”

Water and Sewage Superintendent Jim Englishby said the water was safe—it just wasn’t pleasant to look at. He noted that the water should return to a normal color as sediments eventually settle down.
