Two people were safely rescued from nearly drowning in the Long Island Sound late Sunday afternoon, and a search turned up no further victims near Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Conn., according to the Connecticut Post.

Two people — believed to be a father and son — were taken to Norwalk Hospital after they were pulled from the water by a civilian on the beach who noticed they were in distress, the Post said.

Rescuers who searched the park's East Beach into the evening turned up no further victims, the Post said.

Divers from the Westport police and fire departments were involved in the search with help from the Norwalk Fire Department boat and a marine unit from Fairfield, the Post said.
