TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The Dr. Leonard Finkelstein Excellence Award for 2015 was recently presented posthumously to Dr. Sean Misciagna, of Tarrytown, a Westmed Medical Group urgent care physician.
Misciagna joined Westmed in March 2008, and died in November 2015 at the age of 36 after battling cancer for more than four years.
The award is named for Dr. Leonard Finkelstein, a founding and admired member of Westmed who was known for his dedication to his patients and the respect he showed his colleagues.
Dr. Jason Moshe Shuker, associate medical director for Urgent Care/Pediatrics at Westmed, described Misciagna as “a special part of the culture of our family in Urgent Care and the spirit with which we treat our patients and each other.”
Misciagna was board certified in family medicine.
He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, then completed his post-graduate medical training at the Montefiore Medical Center’s Department of Family and Social Medicine in the Bronx.
Before joining Westmed, Misciagna was a staff physician at Queens Long Island Medical Group in Jamaica, N.Y., where he provided comprehensive, primary patient care.
“The Dr. Leonard Finkelstein Excellence Award is an annual award presented to the physician who most embodies the ideals of Dr. Finkelstein, demonstrating the highest level of clinical quality with compassion and selfless devotion to patient care,” said Dr. Jenifer Johnson, chair of the award nominating committee.
Westmed Medical Group is a large multi-specialty group medical practice, with headquarters in Purchase.
